The Janome A.S.R. (Accurate Stitch Regulator). It is a groundbreaking tool used for free-motion quilting that acts like "training wheels," reading the speed at which you move your fabric and adjusting the needle speed automatically to ensure perfectly even, consistent stitches.

Our exclusive stitch regulation system kit comes standard with the Continental M8 and is an optional accessory for the Horizon Memory Craft 9480QCP and includes four feet;

  • Closed Toe Foot – Use for free motion quilting
  • Open Toe Foot – Use for free motion quilting. The front of the foot is open for better visibility of stitches.
  • Clear view – Use for zigzag free motion quilting. Use for the bumpy quilt of the echo quilting.
  • Ruler Work – Janome Exclusive use with quilting rulers to create professional-looking shapes.

With the added benefit of setting the sensor’s sensitivity, you can adjust the regulation as your skills build.

How the A.S.R. System Works
The A.S.R. system uses advanced optical sensor technology integrated directly with compatible sewing machines. [1, 2]
  • Consistent Stitches: As you move the quilt sandwich, the built-in optical sensor reads your hand speed and communicates with the machine to match the needle speed, guaranteeing every stitch is exactly the same length.
  • Included Attachments: The A.S.R. kit comes with four interchangeable feet to cover every free-motion scenario:
    • Closed-toe foot (ASR-QC): For general free-motion quilting.
    • Open-toe foot (ASR-QO): For thread painting and maximum visibility.
    • Ruler work foot (ASR-QR): A Janome exclusive foot that allows you to use quilting rulers while the stitch regulator is engaged.
    • Clear-view foot (ASR-QV): For zigzag free-motion or echo quilting.

Compatible Machines
Because the stitch regulator requires direct communication with the machine’s motherboard, it cannot be used as an aftermarket add-on for older models. The A.S.R. system comes standard or is an optional compatible kit for these high-end Janome machines:
  • Continental M17
  • Continental M8 Professional
  • Horizon Memory Craft 9480QCP
Usage Tips & Settings
To get the most out of your A.S.R., you can adjust the machine’s sensitivity as your quilting confidence grows:
  • Speed Adjustment: Set the machine's speed slider relatively high. The machine controls the actual needle speed, so allowing it to run fast gives the regulator the best room to adapt to your hand movements.
  • Sensor Sensitivity: If you are a fast quilter and find the machine's overspeed warning beeping at you, you can decrease the A.S.R. sensitivity in the machine's settings menu so the system accommodates your natural pace.
  • Ruler Work: When using rulers, switch to the dedicated ASR-QR foot and keep steady, even pressure against the edge of your ruler.
